Safe to Walk in Walking Boot with a 5th Metarsal Fracture?

My break was described as "a transverse, avulsion fracture where the fracture is 2mm apart and closely aligned." This injury occurred on thanksgiving morning, 11/25/10.

网页2016年1月31日 · Unregistered Guest. The SURAL nerve is what is damaged with severe breaks of the 5th Metatarsal. Make sure that you see a Neurologist podiatrist for surgery. If the nerve is simply impinged they can release it but if it has been damaged or severed like in my case they will have to amputate it.

I was told yes I have a fracture, bone in good alignment, healing is occuring at fracture site. Advised to walk "flat footed" and don't use this foot to push off when swimming.

I have been in a cast for the past 5 weeks and using a bone growth stimulator for the past 4 weeks. The cast comes off tomorrow morning.

I was first put in a half cast, just the back and sole of my foot, then the sports physio put me in a fracture boot (cam boot). I have been still using the cast at night. I didn't know it was fractured till the end of the 3rd day, so was walking on it till they xrayed me.

Many doctors (so I've read online) would allow their patients to walk on this fracture initially, without the 6 week non-weightbearing period), and allow removal of the boot by week 6 or 8, or as soon as pain subsides.
