Spotify is expanding its tool that helps create playlists using generative artificial intelligence for premium users to four new markets, including the United States and Canada, the Swedish streaming giant said on Tuesday.

The AI-powered playlist creation tool can be found in the “Your Library” tab by selecting the plus button (+) at the top right of the screen and choosing “AI Playlist” in the menu next to “Playlist” and “Blend.” Users can tap the “Create” button to save the playlist to their library.

In a blog post the music streaming giant recommends subscribers stick to "genre," "mood" or "artist" prompts to generate the most successful playlists, but it stipulates that anything from movie characters to emojis can be used. Examples include, "Upbeat folk music for a scenic fall road trip," and "2000 era hype jams for the tailgate."

Selecting “AI Playlist” from the drop-down menu will then open a chat box to describe the playlist you want, such as “spooky songs to play during Halloween” or “soothing folk music for a chill bath time.

Spotify’s beta AI Playlist feature is now available for Premium users in the US, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand. It lets you create and refine custom playlists using text prompts. It initially arrived in April in the UK and Australia.
