ATLANTA — As Hurricane Helene nears landfall along the Florida coast, shelters are opening up across Georgia in anticipation of the major storm. Most of the shelters are open in south Georgia near the Georgia-Florida state line, but there are still several that are open to those in metro Atlanta.

Hurricane Helene is still miles from Florida’s coast, but the storm’s outer bands are already impacting the Sunshine State.
