Akron Public Schools Board of Education member Job Esau Perry has resigned. He is stepping down to serve as a part-time magistrate under Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer.

The Akron Public Schools Superintendent issued a statement Tuesday morning that appeared to threaten disciplinary action against staff members if they do not follow "protocols" for reporting issues in their buildings and instead go to their union representatives.

Job Esau Perry is in the third year of a four-year term. The Akron school board will have to appoint someone to fill his seat for the rest of the term.

Akron Public Schools Director of Communications Mark Williamson is retiring, effective Oct. 31. The school board approved his retirement Monday night. Williamson has been the public voice and face of the district through internal and external communications since 2013,
